Summary:
Jari Okkonen, Not only centres and peripheries – archaeological examples of peer polity interaction
The only explanation put forward for past socio-cultural change has
been the centre-periphery model. It is not universally apposite,
however, and it is certainly incorrect in cases that involve
socio-political units interacting from equal premises and possessing
equal resources. In the peer polity model mutual co-operation,
competition and imitation are more important driving factors than the
impact of distant centres.
